Welcome to the Canadian Sleep Surgery Clinic

Don’t go another night suffering through disruptive sleep. OSA is not the same for every patient and therefore treatment of OSA is just as unique and should be tailored to fit your needs. Turn to Canadian Sleep Surgery Clinic for surgical treatment options. Our strength lies in our expertise and training to provide excellent care and to give patients a surgical treatment option for their sleep apnea. We are a semi-private, academic practice focused on head and neck surgery. We are one of the few centres in Canada that provide advanced surgical care for obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

The Canadian Sleep Surgery Clinic was founded by Dr. Jason Chau, MD, MPH, FRCSC who is certified by the Royal College of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery with fellowship training in Surgery for Sleep Disordered Breathing. The clinic is led by Dr. Chau who completed his fellowship training at Stanford Sleep Medicine Centre. He is supported by highly qualified administrative staff who are passionate about providing the best quality of care for all patients.

Welcoming Patients from All Over Canada

Canadian Sleep Surgery Clinic is based in Calgary but has welcomed patients who have travelled from across Canada seeking surgical treatments for sleep apnea and snoring issues. The majority of our patients are referred to our clinic because they have failed alternate treatment options and are looking for specialist care.

Did you know…?

  • According to the Public Health Agency of Canada website, an estimated 858,900 (3%) Canadian adults, 18 years and older reported being told by a health professional that they have sleep apnea.

  • In addition to those who reported being diagnosed with sleep apnea, over 1 in 4 (26%) adults reported symptoms and risk factors that are associated with a high risk of having or developing obstructive sleep apnea

  • The prevalence of OSA in obese or severely obese patients is nearly twice that of normal-weight adults, however, not all our patients are obese, some have a normal BMI and lead active lifestyles.

  • In 2002, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended that all children be screened for snoring and that a diagnosis be conducted to determine if a child is experiencing normal primary snoring or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

  • The American College of Chest Physicians study found that children who snored loudly were twice as likely to have learning problems

Scheduling an Appointment through Provincial Health Care

If you are interested in pursuing a consultation with Dr. Chau, you would need to have a formal referral sent to our office (including the sleep study results if you wish to be seen for sleep surgery). A referral may be sent from your current Otolaryngologist (ENT surgeon), Family Physician or Walk-in clinic or some Dentists. We follow a standardized triage process. For sleep surgery, referrals must include in lab or overnight home sleep apnea testing. Once the referral is reviewed by Dr. Chau, it is prioritized based on the information including. Wait times vary based on urgency. You would then be scheduled for an initial consultation with Dr. Chau to decide whether you are a candidate for surgery or less invasive procedures. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact the office.

Snoring Only - Private Consultation

Unfortunately, snoring is not considered "medically significant" enough by provincial health care insurance programs (in any province). Unless there is a diagnosis of sleep apnea, all associated costs for snoring treatments would have to be covered by the patient or their private insurance company. If the patient would like to be assessed in private consultation for their snoring only, please contact our office to book.

**Private consults are subject to a consultation fee; however, this will be applied as a credit to your account if you decide to proceed with a private pay procedure.

Please note, as wait times for clinic appointments continues to grow, our office requires 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If the patient cancels with less than 24 hours notice or fails to attend a confirmed appointment THERE WILL BE A $150 NEW PATIENT FEE AND $75 FOLLOW UP PATIENT FEE.

***PLEASE ENSURE ALL OF YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE AS REMINDER CALLS ARE PROVIDED WITHIN 1 WEEK OF YOUR APPOINTMENT***
